What is EVV and why is it required?

The 21st Century Cures Act, is a federal law, passed by Congress in December 2016, that in part requires all state Medicaid programs to implement an Electronic Visit Verification (EVV) system for personal care services (PCS) and home health care services (HHCS). All states must implement an EVV system to avoid a reduction in federal Medicaid funding. States must require EVV use for all Medicaid-funded Personal Care Services (PCS) by January 1, 2020. ARISE’s EVV platform is called MyTime and staff that work in the type of programs defined above are required to use it for payroll purposes.
EVV is used to:
  • Verify visits on a real-time basis, including date, location, type of service, individual(s) providing and receiving services, and duration of service(s)
  • Validate hours of work for home health employees
  • Eliminate billing data entry mistakes
  • Reduce costs related to paper billing and payroll
  • Help combat fraud, waste and abuse and cut down on falsely documented visits

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Q: Can ARISE access my device location when I am not working?
A:No, Your device's location is only transmitted to ARISE when you have the MyTime EVV Form open and have clicked the submit button. At no other time can ARISE systems or staff see your device location.

  • Q:Why do I see errors about failed EVV Validation even though my device is compatible with EVV?
A:When clocking in to a MyTime job, the EVV system compares your location to the known location of the individual who is receiving services. If you are not close enough to that individual's home, if the individual's address has been entered into MyTime incorrectly, or your device has a poor GPS connection you may see these errors. Please contact your supervisor for support to ensure accurate data collection.

  • Q:I am having trouble getting my device to pass testing or am getting an unusual error message during clock in/out, who should I contact?
A: The ARISE IT Team has a dedicated email address for MyTime EVV issues. Please email us at evvhelp@ariseinc.org

  • Q:I am having test failures or EVV failures on my Apple iOS Device, what settings do I need to enable to correct this?
A:This link contains instructions for enabling location services for the Safari browser on iOS devices, some staff have reported that they need to enable this before they are able to use EVV.
